  I feel like I'm being pushed away

  ok, so here's my story as it stands right now.

  my husband and i have been married for 6 1/2 years.

  about 2 weeks after we were married, he was appointed as a ministerial servant.

  Then the elders told us that we need to have a good report before the CO comes to visit again. Oh, so now it's about looking good for some person, and now about sincerely giving to Jehovah because it's the right thing to do? Can anyone say DOUBLE STANDARD?!

  Finally, about 3 weeks ago, my husband stepped down as a ministerial servant. The elders pretended to be so shocked and upset, but they basically pushed him away. They treated him like a puppet, and now that he's thinking for himself, most of the elders snub him big time!

  I think you just did what they wanted. If your husband wanted to be a MS they could not have deleted him for service time. That is seriously weak. But you did it for them. So, I wish you the best. I never served as MS and I'm glad of it. Enjoy your life off of the JW hamster wheel. Don't let anyone give you crap about your relationship with God as if they can measure your spirituality.

  Assembly Hall shakedown - Columbia SC

  from someone who attended:.

  there was a big elders meeting in columbia sc on saturday june 9.. around 240 congregations, 2000+ elders.. the society wants to build a brand new assembly hall in columbia, sc, to handle the huge influx of jws moving to the us southeast from up north.. they expect to have it done in 34 months (finished by april 2010).

  total cost estimated to be approximately $8 - 9 million.. they want to have the whole thing paid for by the time the building is done - no long term loans.. they "strongly suggested" that each of the 240 congregations commit to supporting "their share" of the expense.

  Sir, you sell them short. Every time I go to a group function I go out for food. Plenty of attendees go out for lunch.

  My mother-in-law refused to eat lunch once instead of going to get food with us. She is super hardcore and was in town visiting us. We were supposed to eat with her friends, but they neglected to tell her they had no food. I'm sure she was proud of being so loyal.

  Labeling people "worldly"

  by using the label "worldly" the wt shortchanges people.

  the same people it quotes as authorities in its magazines can also be easily dismissed if their opinion disagrees with the wt viewpoint by simply stating that after all, those persons are "worldly".

  but those who use this term also shortchange themselves.

  we were told long ago not to label people as "worldly" or "worldlings" and to only use worldly to define actions, etc.
  
  and btw, JWs arent the originator of the term "Worldly" to describe a type of people -- look in a dictionary sometime :)

  "Long ago"? Lots of witnesses not getting the memo. Convenient there. Geez, "worldlings" is even worse.

  Regardless of what group originated the term it is still manipulation still used by JWs. Name calling is so counterproductive. It seems to me that there are some kinder, gentler congregations out there. But the majority of JWs seem to want to judge and be judged. God forbid some might use thier conscience to make a decision instead of running to the latest bound volume/ CDROM dogma for answers.

  my husband is a dfd dub even though he still believes all the crap.. .

  we have a discussion yesterday where i basically said i feel like i was bamboozled because i didnt really have the option to choose.

  if i had the choice, knowing what i know (growing up around a lot of jws in my life) i wouldnt make the choice to marry into the religion because i think its wacked, lol .

  It is all going off shore. Unless you get a degree in gerontological ass wiping management, you are SOL in America.

  Tech in Los Estados Unidos is not dead. It definitely has taken a hard hit from offshore firms. I don't think it is possible to offshore everything. Perhaps the majority of 1000+ staff companies will, but small software firms and consultancies will always exist here.

  I used to work for a very large tech company. We did a tremendous amount of outsourcing to offshore and onshore firms. My personal experience with the offshore firms is that you get the top talent to start the engagements, but this quickly degrades after they move on to other projects. I am still close to my first Lead Tech guy from India. He is a fantastic person and extremely talented. Persons 2 through 4 were not so much. We constantly had to check up on them, estimates were consistently 2-3 times longer than what it would have taken our trained domestic staff to complete. Quality was less also. But who cared since the cost of the work was about 4x as cheap.

  BTW: I have no tech degree (no degree at all, thanks WTS!) however, this has not stopped me from being self-taught, tremendously driven, and successful. Someday I may complete that BS in CS degree that is currently dormant on the shelf staring back at me with 15 or so credits left. Meh.

  Seriously, I'd rather get out of tech all together since it is SUCH a rat race. I get tired of everything being life-or-death, 4am production support, on-call, blah blah.
